Dan Hughes found a badly injured cat along the road in Athens County. One of the poor cat’s legs had been fractured in three places. Without veterinary care, the bones had begun to reconnect at bad angles, forming an unusable leg. Correcting this would mean putting the cat through the trauma of rebreaking the leg at all three points.
Cats missing a leg get around quite well, and it was decided that removing the damaged leg would be best. This surgery was performed at our clinic in Jacksonville by Dr. Erik Aanestad. Dr. A was assisted by Lauren Lietzke, a pre-veterinary student at Ohio University.

Students like Lauren relish the chance for real clinical experience outside the classroom, and this was a tremendous learning opportunity. She assisted Dr. A very capably, the operation went smoothly, and now Gabby has recovered nicely.
We've held her back from adoption during her recovery period, but she's green-lighted for a home now!
This "tripod cat" is a loving friendly pet ready to join your family.
